Some favorite performances

Here are links to some performances I really enjoy. Some of these are unusual enough that you may never have seen them. For the most part, I am concentrating on the old stuff but there are a couple of contemporary things that I think are great and may have been missed by a lot people.

Julie London Live

This video is the beautiful, and very sexy,  Julie London, late in her singing career performing Bye, Bye Blackbird accompanied only by a stand-up bass. This really smokes!

Younger folks may remember Julie as Nurse Dixie McCall on the TV series Emergency.

Nat ‘King’ Cole sings Stardust

Here is the smoothest guy of them all performing  Stardust. Nat’s crystal-clear enunciation, emotional inflection and warm expression are just what is called for to deliver Mitchell Parish’s rhyming free-verse lyrics pushed through the syncopated rhythms of Hoagy Carmichael. For a long time, Stardust was the most-recorded song in history. Enjoy!

Losing My Mind

Here is a more recent musical number, Losing My Mind as performed by Michael Ball. This is a great love song, and the small, intimate setting here, with a few women around him, is very cool. If you have a lady you love, show her this video some time when you want her to melt.

The Prayer

A great orchestra, led by David Foster. A majestic song, written and composed by Foster and Carol Bayer Sager. A stunningly beautiful girl (Katherine McPhee) in a great dress, with a powerful voice. And Andrea Bocelli. What more could we ask for? I play this all the time.
